Six Nations Wine Challenge invite our Pinotage...

Letter below as received from the Six Nations Wine Challenge to invite Spioenkop Wines to enter their Pinotage.
This is the only wine show in the world where the wines come in exclusively by invitation from the Judges.

Dear Winemaker,

Wine Judge Michael Fridjhon and I invite you to join an exclusive group of south African winemakers to offer a challenge to five other nations for the title of the New World Wine Champions.

This is the only wine show in the world where the wines come in exclusively by invitation from the Judges.

"Because the wines are all pre selected by each of the judges the standard of wine quality must surely be higher than any competition of this size in the world".  Bob Campbell MW.

Michael has selected 100 individual South African wines covering 16 classes in the Challenge against Australia, USA, New Zealand, Chile and Argentina in the 2013 judging to be held during August in Sydney.  In total there will be 630 wines challenging.   This year Michael will be joined by fellow judges Bob Campbell (New Zealand) who will Chair this year and Huon Hooke (Australia), Fabricio Portelli (Argentina) and Eduardo Brethauer (Chile) and Dan Berger (USA) to establish 16 Trophies, White Wine of Show, Red Wine of Show, many Double Gold and Gold medals and the Nation of Show which will be announced to the world-wide media as the New World Champion nation. The USA is joining the Challenge for the first year in 2013.

The 16 trophy winners will be given a full page advertisement in the 2013 Results Magazine.  All 16 will be featured at the Trophy Presentation Degustation Dinner in Sydney on October 3.  All competing wines will be exposed to the Australian trade, media and public at a major tasting event on the same day in Sydney.  These events will be followed by a tasting of all trophy wines to be held at Villa Maria in New Zealand on Thursday 24 October and a Trophy dinner in the Napa Valley at Michael Chiarello’s Bottega Restaurant.

Simply by being invited by Michael into the Challenge is an honour and you may use our logo to advertise the fact that your wine has been selected into this prestigious event.  If you win a trophy or a medal you will be sent the related artwork which you can use on your web site or any marketing collateral announcing your participation.

The Challenge was founded in 2003 and details of the classes, past winners and the judges can be seen at http://www.6nationswine.com.au

Over 100 years ago, on the evening of Tuesday 23 January 1900, 1 700 British troops deployed to South Africa prepared to attack their enemies on a hill in Natal known as Spionkop – the name ‘Spioenkop’, meaning ‘Spy Hill’ or 'Lookout Hill', was coined by the Dutch settlers for the commanding views it afforded of the slopes and valley below. During the days that followed, a bloody battle ensued... Read more
